Formerly known as the Social Science Teaching Department established in 2001, the College of Marxism is an independent secondary institution, mainly responsible for the teaching of ideological and political theory courses and the research on Marxist theory.

The college has 40 faculty members, including 36 full-time teachers, of whom 61.11% have intermediate and senior professional titles and 86.11% have master's and doctoral degrees. The college offers compulsory courses of ideological and political theory to all students in GZUC. According to the curriculum, it sets up six teaching and research sections, covering 6 courses including Ideological and Moral Education, the Rule of Law, Outline of Modern and Contemporary Chinese History, Mao Zedong Thoughts and the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, Basic Principles of Marxism, Situation and Policy, and Law.

Adhering to Xi Jinping Thoughts on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for the New Era and the philosophy of "cultivating students with virtues, providing students with skills", the college has been dedicated to implementing the fundamental task of cultivating ethical character and promoting well-rounded development while taking the teaching system of "Four Classrooms Interaction" as the main body, that is, "teaching as the first classroom, practice as the second classroom, internet as the new classroom and society as a big classroom". The school’s further research into Marxist innovation theory with Chinese characteristics in the new era will be strongly underpinned by its constant self-construction, its connotative development and its improvement of the ability and quality of teaching staff.
