The College of Tourism Management was established to adapt to the development of local tourism industry, whose program construction and talent cultivation date back to 1993. The college currently has 47 faculty members, including 21 senior-level professionals and 11 PhD holders. The ratio of full-time teachers with master's or doctoral degrees is 92.1%. Additionally, professional managers from the industry are hired as part-time teachers. The college offers three majors: Exhibition Economy and Management, Hotel Management, and Tourism Management, with a total of 978 students.


Adhering to the concept of "refinement, sincerity, and excellence," the college actively cooperates with Guizhou Hotel Group, Guizhou Liquor Expo Company, Guizhou Provincial Youth Travel Service, Guizhou Huangguoshu Tourism Group, Guiyang International Conference and Exhibition Center, as well as various five-star international hotels in Guiyang, in order to cultivate application-oriented talents and serve as a talent cultivation base for the development of the local tourism industry.


The college actively serves the society with its professionalism. It collaborates with cultural and tourism authorities at the provincial, municipal, and district levels, such as Guizhou Province, Guiyang City, Baiyun District, Huaxi District, and Xiuwen County, to carry out tourism planning, talent training, service consultation, and standardization construction. In the past three years, the college's faculty has presided over ten research projects funded by the Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Education, the Department of Commerce, and other departments. Over one hundred academic papers have been published.


Furthermore, the college actively promotes the construction of first-class majors and courses at the provincial level. The major of Exhibition Economy and Management is recognized as the first-class provincial major, and the course "Hotel Front Office and Housekeeping Management (Bilingual)" is approved as the first-class undergraduate course of national level. The college explores the reform of talent cultivation models for hotel management, aiming to actively serve the development of tourism industrialization.


Tourism Management Major


This major cultivates high-quality application-oriented talents with commercial awareness, innovative spirit, and practical work style. After learning in this major, students would acquire the basic knowledge of economics, management, and law, theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of tourism management, as well as excellent communication abilities, tourism planning and design skills, business operation management capabilities, information technology application skills, and comprehensive foreign language proficiency. Graduates are well-equipped to engage in various roles within the cultural tourism sector and service industry, including tour guide services, project planning and operation, planning and design, investment analysis, marketing and promotion, education and training, etc.

The major consists of 11 teachers, including 5 with senior titles and 5 with doctoral degrees, mainly with backgrounds in science, management, and economics. This well-structured teaching team is capable of meeting the needs of cultivating application-oriented talents for tourism industry.


The teaching team actively participates in the formulation of relevant standards for mountain tourism in Guizhou Province, leads and contributes to the preparation of various tourism development plans, and completes several projects under the "Ten Thousand Tourism Talents Plan" of the national Ministry of Culture and Tourism. They actively provide training and consulting services to support the development of local tourism industries.


The major has established stable university-enterprise cooperation relationships with China International Travel Service Guizhou Branch, Guizhou Overseas Tourism Corporation, Guizhou Youth Travel Service, Guizhou Bao'an China Travel Service, Guiyang News Travel Industry Group, Guizhou China Travel Service, as well as 5A-level scenic spots such as Huangguoshu Waterfall and Baili Rhododendron. In line with the local economy and application-oriented nature of GZUC, the college actively integrates research and social services with the strategies of rural revitalization, big data, and large-scale ecological development to cultivate application-oriented talents that meet the needs of tourism industrialization in the new era.


The main employment prospects for graduates include roles in tourism administration departments, travel agencies, tourist attractions, tourism planning and consulting companies, tourism e-commerce platforms, theme parks, tourism transportation and passenger service companies, or entrepreneurship in related fields.


Hotel Management Major


This major cultivates individuals who are devoted to the CPC party and love our country, with comprehensive development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor skills. Graduates possess a sense of social responsibility and are equipped to meet the modern development needs of the hotel industry. They have a solid foundation in economics, management, and law, systematically mastering the fundamental theories, specialized knowledge, and skills of hotel management. Graduates demonstrate excellent service awareness, communication skills, hotel business management and operation capabilities, as well as hotel market analysis and decision-making abilities. They are prepared to work in high-end accommodation and dining industries, education and research institutions, and administrative agencies, engaging in roles such as business management, planning consulting, and education and training. They are high-quality application-oriented talents with commercial awareness, innovative spirit, and practical work style.

They provide research reports on hotel industry development and policy recommendations to local governments and industry enterprises, actively contributing to local industrial development. In the latest 2023 Chinese University First-class Major Ranking (Application-oriented Type) evaluated by the Alumni Association, this major ranks 1st in Guizhou Province and 26th nationwide.


The major collaborates with Guizhou Hotel Group, Huazhu Group, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), Guiyang Sheraton, Guiyang Sofitel Hotel, Kempinski Hotel, Renaissance Hotel, and others to implement the "Hotel Elite" training program. The major closely follows the trends of intelligent, diversified, and integrated development in the hotel industry, deepens cooperation between government, industry, academia, and research, builds professional characteristics around the new business science, and strives towards becoming a top-tier regional major.

Exhibition Economy and Management Major

They have a solid foundation in the basic theories of economics and management, along with specialized knowledge in the exhibition economy industry. Graduates master professional skills in exhibition planning, design, operation, management, and evaluation. They are prepared to work in cultural tourism and exhibition-related positions in enterprises and institutions, engaging in activities such as organization, planning, design, operation, and management. They are high-quality application-oriented talents with strong commercial awareness, legal awareness, and practical work style.

In the latest 2023 Chinese University First-class Major Ranking (Application-oriented Type) evaluated by the Alumni Association, this major ranks 1st in Guizhou Province and 12th nationwide. In 2019, the major was approved to be the provincial first-class major, and in 2020, it initiated collaboration with International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) in Australia to train elite together.


The teaching team has completed research projects on the current status and policies of exhibition economic development in Guizhou Province, the theoretical system for constructing Guizhou exhibition big database, the mechanism research on the construction of demonstration small towns and the interactive development of the tourism industry, and the planning of Guiyang leisure and vacation tourism destination. They have actively participated in the preparation and service of the Eco Forum Global Guiyang, China (Guizhou) International Liquor Expo, and China International Big Data Expo, demonstrating strong practical capabilities.


The major makes use of the above exhibitions as platforms to conducts practical teaching, making sure its graduates much more qualified for future jobs.


Graduates from this major usually work in government agencies, exhibition companies and service companies, exhibition venues, large hotels, cultural and museum institutions, tourism companies, large and medium-sized enterprises, education and training institutions, consulting and publishing organizations, and large-scale international event projects.
