On April 7, 2023, the Third 2023 “ SFLEP VocabGo Cup” National English Vocabulary Contest in GZUC came to an End. The competition was organized by the Department of Foreign Languages (School of International Education), with the cooperation of GZUC English Association. For the first time, GZUC organized the competition, and a total of 1319 students from seven teaching departments of the university actively participated. According to the competition rules, the top 10% of students in GZUC competition will represent the university in the Guizhou Province competition on May 13, 2023, and the national finals will take place on May 27. In the end, 110 students stood out, with Zhou Jingyang from grade 2021 Accounting, Wang Ting from grade 2021 Financial Engineering, and Li Tie from grade 2022 Financial Management ranking in the top three of the campus competition.
“SFLEP VocabGo Cup” National English Vocabulary Contest is jointly organized by China Foreign Language Strategy Research Center, China Foreign Language Textbook and Teaching Methodology Research Center, and Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. By promoting innovation in English vocabulary learning and testing methods, the competition can improve the level of intelligent English teaching, thereby stimulating the enthusiasm of college students to learn English, meeting the needs of online English teaching in universities, and effectively improving the quality of foreign language teaching.
The competition is held online on the “Word Master” English vocabulary intelligent learning platform. It follows the design concept of “practice promotes learning” and “competition promotes practice”. It uses advanced corpus technology to build a new vocabulary teaching model, scientifically plans the vocabulary learning process, and integrates vocabulary learning with English teaching through teacher guidance and supervision. This helps students overcome inertia and overcome vocabulary difficulties.
Since the first competition in 2020, its scale and influence have been growing. GZUC organization of this competition is beneficial for promoting students to develop good habits of vocabulary memorization and also helpful for students’ preparation for the CET-4 and CET-6 exams. It stimulates students’ interest in learning English and creates a strong learning atmosphere for scientific vocabulary memorization. We look forward to our students achieving excellent results in the Guizhou Province competition on May 13th!
